‘Palliative Care in General Practice – Principles and Practicalities’ Wednesday 16th March and Tuesday 12th April 2016 at St Catherine’s Hospice, Scarborough Now in it's 4th year, this comprehensive two day workshop is aimed at GPs, GP Registrars looking to increase their skills and confidence in managing palliative care patients. Each day complements the other although both are suitable as stand-alone study days. The course maps to the RCGP curriculum and will provide detailed information on the MDT and other support agencies available. It will include facilitated small group work and case studies with the opportunity to refine skills between the study days and bring cases for reflection.
‘The GP Update course’ - Saturday 16thApril 2016 at the Allam Lecture Theatre, Hull University HYMS is hosting the third Humberside version of the RCGP-accredited GP Update course on Saturday 16th April 2015. This will take place at the Allam Lecture Theatre in the Derwent Building of our Cottingham campus between 10am and 4pm. As per last year, this event is being generously supported by Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincs and North East Lincs CCGs meaning that primary care clinicians based in these areas can attend at the greatly reduced delegate rate of only £60. Clinicians from other CCG areas are welcome to attend at the standard rate which remains considerably less than the equivalent national course.
'ECG made GPeasy!' - Tuesday 26th April at the Loxley building, University of Hull. Being able to identify normal and abnormal ECG findings is an essential skill in primary care but something that can feel more challenging as time elapses after hospital training posts. This interactive half-day session led by 2 experienced cardiologists is open to GPs, ANPs and practice nurses and will provide an opportunity to update and re-invigorate confidence in interpreting 12 lead ECGs in primary care as well as providing advice on subsequent management.
‘Paediatric update’ – Thursday 12th May at the University of Hull. This full day course, led by local paediatricians, will update and improve confidence in a number of areas relating to paediatrics. These include managing children presenting with developmental concerns, allergy and respiratory problems as well as a session entitled ‘things that usually aren’t cancer’. The course will take place in the Loxley building of the Cottingham Campus.
‘An introduction to Mindfulness’ – Wednesday May 18th May at Alumgarth Farm, Eskdaleside near Whitby In recent years, mindfulness practice has been increasingly employed to alleviate a variety of mental and physical conditions. There is an increasing evidence base for its benefits. This 1 day course, facilitated by two retired GPs and mindfulness trainers is specifically designed for primary care health professionals who wish to use mindfulness for their own personal benefit and to raise awareness of it as a potential support for patients.
